PowerPoint for Mac 2011...
It was a really busy month working for my friends at Lynda.com designing and Illustrating DVD covers for their education videos. It was a month of walking to my studio in the dark and then walking back to the house in complete darkness. The most exciting part of the month was leaving my studio a few nights ago without a flashlight. I've walked this path hundreds of times in the dark around the pool and down the rocky stairs and then weaving through the yard to the house. So I leave the studio walk around the pool take a step and my right foot goes down into the pool and my left knee slams onto the concrete deck. I am kneeling there on the side of the pool and I am thinking, "My wallets getting wet and my phone is dry!" The exciting part, I didn't get hurt and I didn't drown or wreck my phone. Here are the last 3 covers that I created and if you would like to see the other 5 you can view them here. Art Direction, Heather Stallings

I love how you approach your digital work with (what I think is) a printmaker's way of thinking.
Richard Downs October 28, 2010
Hi Rob, yep. I have been using traditional printmaking since 1990 to create my work and through the 90's I collaged monotypes together to make my pieces. This digital work is based around that collage approach. I don't really like to paint with a brush. I like to draw, roll ink mechanically, stamp, use pressure and cut things out to make art and the computer is perfect for those approaches, me think.

Another strong set from Mr. Downs. I particularly enjoy the Outlook for Mac image. The colors are great. Word is kind of trippy too.

Great gig Richard, and very nicely executed. Now Lynda.com needs to make a "How to walk from studio to pool" dvd.

Thank you, Victor. I knew that this comment had to come from you my friend, you are the only person I know that still uses the term, trippy! :)

Hi Dale, Thank you, I know that you have a proper pool that is next to the house with lights etc, etc. We live at the Sierra foothills and the house came with a ridiculous mountain pool, no lights, no fence and way up the hill from the house, it did come with a cool cabaƱa which is my studio, though.

Hey Richard, glad you survived the mishap. You may need to wear protective gear for your short trip to work. Nice artwork. Love the Outlook For Mac piece.

Hi Jim, thanks man! I am a bit surprised at how many people like that Outlook piece, you can't guess how work rings with folks.

Unusual shape to work with - you handled it really well.
Richard Downs November 1, 2010
Hi Alan, Thank you. The shape is the the single hardest part when working on these pieces, it is basically 2.5 illustrations in one.
