is a storage unit 25 miles north of San Francisco and the brainchild of Jeffrey Dodson. I didn't fully understand the application when Jeff asked me to create some work for B-763 and I still don't. This didn't stop me from saying yes because I have huge respect for the man and the artist. The conditions of our agreement is this, I send him the work and he can to do anything he desires to it. Paint on it, collage it, shred it to whatever and install it and document it in video and photography. These are the pieces that I made for him and when the installation is complete I will post a new link. I will get the art shipped back to me in a banana box, folded, flattened and recycled.

Richard, I don't want to see these get shredded. Perhaps when I see your pics from the final installation I'll understand more. But I hope this series lives on. I like the murky mystery going on in these.

Love these, Richard

Very zen I guess (shows what I know about Zen!).
I love the pieces you chose to have "interred"; I'm somehow reminded of Hunter S. Thompson in all of this… Why is that?
Brian Stauffer June 1, 2011
these are incredible, Richard.
Adam M June 1, 2011
WOW. Gorgeous stuff, Dick. I hope he doesn't do much of anything to them!
Leo Espinosa June 1, 2011
just brilliant!

You consistently do some of the finest work on Drawger. There's a fearlessness, a willingness to take take chances with your art. Keep at it. You're on to something.
Tim OBrien June 1, 2011
Yes, brave work Richard. Good luck with the show. Those are some compelling images.
Victor Juhasz June 1, 2011
Richard, you can always be counted on to post work that follows its own logic and truth and look beautiful at the same time. There's also that element of dreaming in these images.
Richard Downs June 2, 2011
Gosh, guys. I really appreciate hearing the generous comments, they mean a lot to me. The logic and reality behind the work is the simple truth that my illustration career may no longer be sustainable so I am trying to find myself through other forms of expression. I had a great time doing these pieces, I felt like an artist, I can tell you that much! :)
Douglas Fraser June 2, 2011
These are excellent pieces, and full of a quality in line that is so direct & honest.
Ellen Weinstein June 2, 2011
strong series! love the line work and textures.
Pjb Flynn June 2, 2011
What they said!
Thanks for the good look-see.
Richard Downs June 3, 2011
Hey Doug, Ellen and Pjb! Thank you for the comments, I appreciate them. Patrick, I was looking at a 1997 issue of the Progressive that I illustrated the cover and on the inside, was a very cool illustration by Jeff Dodson!
Katherine Streeter June 3, 2011
so so so great....
Greg June 3, 2011
Really fine!
andrea daquino June 3, 2011
this is amazing work, love it. so sophisticated.
andrea daquino June 3, 2011
by the way, its very honest and gutsy to be blunt about the basic reality that "illustration" must often be supplemented by other work, financially. all the more reason its admirable that you put your energies into this personal work.
Richard Downs June 3, 2011
Hi Katherine, Greg and Andrea. Thanks guy and girls for commenting, I know that I always say the same thing,,, thank you for commenting, so -thanks!
Andrea, it felt good to be honest and tell it like I am experiencing it and the drawings are part of my current experience also, glad that you like them.
