Culture of Security

This was a fun cover illustration for Design Director, Mary Zisk at Stragetic Finance Magazine. This cover story showed how to create a "Culture of Security" in companies to stop data breaches. When I get started on concepts sometimes I just can't stop drawing as shown by my 50" worth of sketches below. The Royal Guard concept was too identifiable as British culture and also an archaic symbol to represent modern technology. The Cyber Ninja, too aggressive. The simple hand, just right!.

Cool. I'm the very same way although lately I've been doing most of the editing right here BEFORE I send the sketches. See you later! J

I like the other sketch idea with the hand, but the final has such a nice graphic quality. Very arresting! (sorry).
It's always a relief to see other illustrators doing a lot of sketches. Maybe I'm not sick after all. I fight with myself to only submit 1-3.

Thank you Joe and Cathleen, if that was the sketch with the snake and hand ?, Mary really liked that idea but didn't like the snake so I had a good jumping off point. I always do a lot of sketches, I enjoy that part of the process. I did run the Royal Guard concept into the ground and it wasn't even an appropriate symbol.

Richard,
Brilliant. Amazing to see your sketches as well but I disagree about the Ninja images. I feel ninjas #1 and #s 6 and 7 work very effectively, along with your final choice. I probably would have put severed fingers on the interior floor, but that's just the Looney Tunes in me talking.
